China's chip imports reached USD 385.6 billion in 2024, reflecting the difficulties of industrial development. The import structure is dominated by processors, controllers and memory chips, and domestic high-end chip technology lags behind market demand. International trade friction and technology blockades add further uncertainty to imports. Insufficient R&D investment, talent shortages and weak supply-chain coordination among domestic chip companies constrain the industry. To break through, companies must increase R&D spending, government must strengthen policy support, industry-academia-research collaboration must be promoted and the supply chain layout must be completed.
