According to customs statistics, China imported USD 385.6 billion of chips in 2024 and exported USD 159.5 billion, a trade deficit of more than USD 200 billion. Import volume reached 549.2 billion units against exports of 298.1 billion units. This shows robust domestic demand but insufficient ability to supply high-end chips, with exports concentrated in low- and mid-range products. The deficit forces the industry to reflect: on one hand R&D and manufacturing capability for high-end chips must improve to reduce import dependence; on the other hand international markets must be expanded to raise the global competitiveness of domestic chips and optimise the trade structure.
