China's chip import volume and value both grew in 2024, reaching 549.2 billion units and USD 385.6 billion. At the same time domestic chip output grew 22.2% to 451.4 billion units, yet domestic chips still hold only a small share of the high-end market. For domestic chips to take half the market will require long-term investment: companies must increase R&D spending to overcome key technologies, while government should refine industrial policy, strengthen the training and introduction of talent, and promote coordinated development along the supply chain to raise the self-sufficiency rate of domestic chips.
