Customs recently published China's 2024 chip import and export data: 549.2 billion chips imported for the year, up 14.51%, with import value of USD 385.6 billion (about RMB 2.8 trillion), up 10.36%. Although domestic capacity and technology have advanced, dependence on imported chips remains heavy amid intense global competition and fast technology cycles. Within imports, processors and controllers account for about 50% and memory chips about 25%, highlighting external dependence in high-end chips. The trade deficit exceeds USD 200 billion and the imbalance in the domestic semiconductor supply chain has intensified.
