In 2024 China's chip imports rose in both volume and value, reaching 549.2 billion units and USD 385.6 billion. The reasons are threefold: rapid development of the domestic electronics industry has driven continuously rising chip demand; global chip technology upgrades have pushed up high-end chip prices; and domestic high-end capacity remains insufficient, forcing reliance on imports. This is a warning that the domestic chip industry must accelerate technology upgrades and capacity expansion.
