China's chip import value hit a record high in 2024, reaching USD 385.6 billion. Such a high import bill reflects the lack of competitiveness of domestic chips in the high-end segment. Achieving domestic substitution is therefore urgent: on one hand domestic companies must accelerate technological innovation to catch up with international advanced levels; on the other hand the domestic market must be cultivated to trust domestic chips, prioritising them through policy guidance and demonstration projects so that the substitution process moves forward.
